We kept a pumpkin for two months on the windowsill
and it never sagged, but wilted so patiently
it didn’t wilt at all. Fullest orange,
little drum for our palms,
skin shimmer gleamed in any light
so it shone in shadow too.
Gold orange melting window-glass
when the sun hit.
You loved to call it hon.
