Somewhere in Suburbia

Somewhere in suburbia Kate is drowning.
You can’t hear her too clearly, for she speaks
wearily but sincerely, in another language.
Her hands are grasping but she isn’t climbing,
she’s falling. In clean blue blankets
and dusty denim wind,

and somewhere across the street,
Jane will be crying out.
